We had to privilege of attending the Knights of Columbus car show in De Soto, Missouri on Saturday. It was an awesome day and we had a lot of fun.
We started our day at 5 AM getting ready to drive to De Soto and start unloading everything into their hall. The weather was perfect nice and cool in the morning.
After setting up, folks started coming by the booth right away and we were kept busy most of the day with folks coming by, asking questions, browsing merchandise, or just chatting like we've known each other all our lives. Super friendly folks.
This was our first for a into custom engraving jewelry on site right there for the customer. I was nervous, but excited. My nervousness was quickly proven unfounded because the on-site lasering was a huge hit. We were busy making things for people all day.
I have a short story that really touched me. It shows the impact our work can have on others, sparking deep emotions in people at times.
I was setup at a Car show today with an awesome crowd, and had my portable laser set up. I was doing custom laser engraving of jewelry for folks at my booth and humming right along.
One of my customers was a woman who wanted her and her Dads name on a simple dog tag, since he was an Army vet. Easy-peasy! I've been doing this sort of thing all day long, so I didn't think anything of it.
In just a couple of short minutes, I engraved it for her, and she paid for it, and as she put it on, she started tearing up.
At first, I was worried that she didn't like it, but she explained that this was in memory of her father, whom she adored. This simple necklace brought a flood of motion to her, and her eyes began to tear.
She said she loved the dog tag so much and that it makes her feel good to have him close to her again. My heart went out to her in ways I can't imagine.
I can admit to you now that in this moment, this grizzled, old, well-weathered man joined the wet-eye club along with her and her daughter.
Another woman who recently lost her husband wanted a necklace with their names on it. Her emotions got the better of her also when she put hers on.
My heart was touched by both of these women, and I felt a sense of pride in being able to play a small part in their healing journey.
One little girl was eying our dollar bargin bin of keychains and REALLY wanted one, but her dad wouldn't let her get one. I leaned over to the dad and quietly told him she can have any one of them she wanted on the house.
